You can use this call prefix when you are in France (for example in Paris) and want to make a phone call to someone who is outside of France. If you are outside of France and want to call someone who is inside France (for example in Paris), you first have to look up the right prefix number for that country in the prefix number list (see continental list).

The area code must be used after the prefix number and the country code (when dialing to a foreign country) but before the rest of the phone numbers. The area code is usually the last code before the rest of the 'personal' phone number.
